Thesis preparation and submission

Complete the preliminary steps

01 · ACADEMIC DECISION

Admission to the thesis review

At the end of the doctoral programme, the Academic Board evaluates the research and training activities completed by the candidate and decides on admission to the external review of the thesis.

02 · THESIS TEMPLATE

Preparing the doctoral thesis

Prepare the thesis in accordance with the requirements of your PhD Programme. Use the official UNICAM title-page model and include any logos or acknowledgements required by the funding programme or host institution.

03 · ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION

Submit the thesis online

Submit the electronic version through the dedicated UNICAM portal within the deadline communicated by the Advanced Studies Office and, as a general rule, within 30 days from the end of the final year.

Before uploading the thesis

Check the final file carefully

Verify the title, candidate and Supervisor details, PhD Programme and curriculum, cycle, required acknowledgements, funding logos, abstract, keywords and any confidentiality restrictions before completing the electronic submission.

External assessment

Review by independent experts

04 · REVIEWERS

External reviewers

The thesis is evaluated by at least two highly qualified experts external to UNICAM. The reviewers examine the scientific quality of the work and provide independent written assessments.

Consult the PhD Regulations →

05 · REVIEW OUTCOMES

Admission or required revisions

The reviewers may recommend admission to the final examination or request integrations and corrections. Their assessments are normally submitted within one month and are made available to the final examination committee.

06 · REVISED THESIS

Revisions and new submission

When substantial revisions are required, the public discussion may be deferred for a period of up to six months. Complete the requested corrections with your Supervisor and submit the revised version following the instructions provided.

Access the Thesis Submission portal →

07 · Confidentiality, intellectual property and embargo

Assess possible restrictions before submitting the thesis

Discuss confidentiality, patent protection and intellectual-property issues with your Supervisor before submitting the thesis. Research results should not be publicly disclosed before any necessary protection or contractual checks have been completed.

When justified, you may request that public access to the full text of the deposited thesis be postponed for an authorised embargo period. The request must be completed and signed by both the candidate and the Supervisor.

Completion of the procedure

From the reviewers’ reports to the examination session

08 · AFTER THE REVIEW

Transmission to the examination committee

After the external review has been completed, the Advanced Studies Office transmits the thesis and reviewers’ assessments to the final examination committee. The candidate then receives official information concerning the examination session.
