Thesis & external review
DURING YOUR PHD
Prepare and submit your doctoral thesis, follow the external review process and complete any revisions required before the final examination.
01
Admission to the thesis review
At the end of the doctoral programme, the Faculty Board evaluates the research and training activities completed by the PhD candidate and decides on admission to the external review of the thesis.
02
Preparing the doctoral thesis
Prepare the thesis in accordance with the requirements of your PhD programme. Use the official UNICAM title-page model and include any logos or acknowledgements required by the funding programme or host institution.
03
Electronic submission of the thesis
Submit the electronic version of the doctoral thesis through the dedicated UNICAM portal within the deadline communicated by SAS and, as a general rule, within 30 days from the end of the final year.
04
External reviewers
The thesis is evaluated by at least two highly qualified experts external to UNICAM. The reviewers examine the scientific quality of the work and provide independent written assessments.
05
External review outcomes
The reviewers may recommend admission to the final examination or request integrations and corrections. Their assessments are normally submitted within one month and are subsequently made available to the final examination committee.
06
Revisions and new thesis submission
When substantial revisions are required, the public discussion may be deferred for a period of up to six months. Complete the requested corrections with your Supervisor and submit the revised version according to the instructions provided by SAS.
07
Confidentiality, intellectual property and embargo
Discuss confidentiality, patent protection and intellectual property issues with your Supervisor before submitting the thesis. When justified, you may request that public access to the full text be postponed for an authorized embargo period.

After completion of the review
After the external review has been completed, SAS transmits the thesis and the reviewers' assessments to the final examination committee. The candidate then receives the official information concerning the examination session.
09
Technical and administrative support
Contact the SAS Office if you experience difficulties with the submission portal, the title-page model, the external review procedure or the documentation required before the final examination.
