One Health (Integrated Approach to Health focused on Interactions between Animals, Humans and the Environment with Attention to Inland Valorization)

The concept of One Health recognizes that human health, animal health, and ecosystem health are interconnected. Although awareness of the importance of this concept is increasing, there is still a lack of promotion of One Health research and implementation of the concept in national healthcare services. One Health research requires close collaborating among medical professionals, veterinarians, biologists, and environmental science experts. When implemented correctly, it can accelerate biomedical research discoveries, improve the effectiveness of public health, rapidly expand the scientific knowledge base, and enhance medical education and clinical care.

This doctoral curriculum provides training for thesis research on various topics related to human and animal health from a One Health perspective. Research on infectious and parasitic diseases, diagnostic and clinical challenges, nutrition and food safety, and public health systems and healthcare delivery is addressed by a multidisciplinary faculty consisting of biologists, medical professionals, and veterinarians specialized in various field. For instance, malaria researchers explore new tools that can be interfere with the transmission of the parasite from the human host to the mosquito vector.
