MOBILITY ABROAD
PhD scholarship increase for mobility abroad
PhD candidates receiving a scholarship may be entitled to an increase for authorised research or training periods abroad. The procedure starts before departure and is completed through certification from the host institution.
≥ 50%
scholarship increase under the general UNICAM framework
1 month
normally the minimum continuous period
12 / 18
maximum months under the applicable general rules
CHECK YOUR POSITION
The general rules may not tell the whole story
Eligibility, duration and financial arrangements may vary according to the PhD cycle, funding source, call for applications, international agreement or individual funded position. Specific positions may be subject to additional or different financial and reporting conditions.
ELIGIBILITY & TIMING
Before making travel arrangements
01 · ELIGIBILITY
Scholarship holders
The ordinary increase concerns PhD candidates receiving a scholarship and eligible under the rules and funding conditions applying to their position.
02 · PURPOSE
Research or training abroad
The stay must be scientifically relevant and form part of the candidate's approved study and research pathway.
03 · TIMING
Start before departure
Begin sufficiently in advance to allow document checks and completion of all related procedures.
BEFORE DEPARTURE
Four elements to prepare
These documents and steps allow the scholarship-increase procedure to be initiated.
DO NOT CONFUSE THE PROCEDURES
Scholarship increase ≠ Mission authorisation
SCHOLARSHIP INCREASE
Additional financial support
This procedure determines and activates the additional scholarship amount for the eligible period abroad.
MISSION PROCEDURE
Travel authorisation and management
This procedure covers the administrative authorisation and management of research-related travel.
Completing one procedure does not replace the other.
CHANGES TO YOUR MOBILITY
Tell us before the authorised period changes
EXTENSION
Extending the stay
Request the extension before the existing authorised period ends. An updated host letter confirming the new end date and continuation of the activity is normally required, together with any updated documentation needed for the related procedures.
OTHER CHANGES
Dates, destination or early return
Changes to dates, destination, host institution or activity, as well as an early return, must be communicated promptly so that the authorised period and scholarship payments can be updated.
DURING & AFTER THE STAY
The host institution confirms what actually happened
HOST CERTIFICATION
What must it contain?
The certification must be issued on institutional headed paper and signed by the responsible person at the host organisation. It must indicate:
• candidate's name;
• precise start and end dates;
• research or training activities actually carried out.
• precise start and end dates;
• research or training activities actually carried out.
PAYMENT TIMING
Monthly or final certification
Monthly: the increase may be processed progressively when complete documentation is received in time.
At the end: one final certification may be submitted and the increase is processed after verification.
IMPORTANT
Payment follows the period actually completed
The increase is linked to the period actually spent abroad and certified by the host institution. Early return, interruption, extension or other changes may therefore affect the amount due.
