MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND CELLULAR BIOTECHNOLOGY

MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND CELLULAR BIOTECHNOLOGY

LIFE AND HEALTH SCIENCES

This curriculum aims to educate young researchers on the principles of modern biology, including Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology, to train researchers who are suitable for positions in strategic public (academic and non-academic) and private research sectors.

Interdisciplinarity is a key focus of this curriculum, encompassing various research areas with the goal of integrating basic biological research with biotechnological applications. Research projects are organized following a problem-oriented approach, which involves addressing societal challenges in the life and health sciences and providing solutions, as required by Horizon Europe. These challenges can be identified as follows:

1) Development of the bioeconomy, including the characterization of new antibiotics, enzymes, and other molecules for industrial applications derived from prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms using omics approaches.

2) Study of the impact of climate change on organisms.

3) Application of emerging biotechnologies for environmental biomonitoring (development of bioindicators for water quality) and animal health, including human health (role of proteasomes in diseases, DNA vaccination in breast cancer).

By focusing on these areas, the curriculum aims to equip researchers with the necessary knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges in the field of biology and contribute to scientific advancements and practical applications in biotechnology.
